To take:

  • Bike light
  • Crystal synth + batteries
  • Volca modular + power
  • Fourtrack + power
  • Compressor pedal
  • Cables/adaptors
  • Zoom recorder
  • Box of crystals
  • Demo crystals in jars + labels
  • Power strip extension

In case:

  • Spare batteries (6v + 9v + volcamod batteries)
  • Oscilloscope
  • Gas powered soldering iron + solder
  • Spare jumpers for volca mod
  • Spare wires
  • Spare capacitors in case they fall out
  • Small multimeter

Plan:

[ crystal synth ] -> [ compressor pedal ] -> [ four  ] --> out
         ^----sync---- [ volca modular ] --> [ track ] --> zoom

Fourtrack running backing track of xtal distorted fm and mine field recordings

Todo:

  • Take xtal box
  • Take zoom
  • Take cassiterite
  • Write labels
  • Test jam
  • Make promo video -> insta

Audience response was really good, small venue meant that people could see when I changed crystals that the sound completely changed too. Used cassiterite for first time(!) - resistance very high (probably due to fluourite intergrowth) so v bassy. I think it was:

  • Squarewave voice: galena(a&c)-cassiterite(unity wood)-chalcocite(penstruthal)
  • Triangle voice: chalcocite(penstruthal)-arsenopyrite(penlee beach)-chalcopyrite(a&c)
  • Noise voice: pyrite(nangiles)

Couldn't hear much detail due to speaker setup but varied the pace a lot and restricted the volca modular to timing only for large sections. Not much modulation evident after midway through (pitch or filter), but doesn't seem to matter, most change through cat's whisker manipulation, which is good. Forgot to take out tweezers, so manipulating tiny switches was hard. Forgot to hit record on zoom, but have a cassette from organisers!
